Representatives from DB Engineering & Consulting, a subsidiary of DB E.C.O. Group, participated in the Autodesk University 2024 conference held from October 15-17 in San Diego. This annual event, known as “The Design & Make Conference,” gathers professionals from architecture, engineering, construction, product design, manufacturing, media, and entertainment to connect, celebrate innovations, and explore the technological future of design and manufacturing.
Two presentations from DB E&C were selected from 3,550 submissions, underscoring our ambitions and expertise in digital rail solutions and project management platforms.
Digital Twins in Rail Asset Management
Ana de Luna from DB E&C and Julio Palma from Autodesk presented “Twins on Track: Maximizing the Potential of Digital Rail Asset Management.” This session examined the impact of digital twins in the rail sector, highlighting the Digitale Schiene Deutschland project by Deutsche Bahn. The presentation focused on the role of digital twins in enhancing AI-driven railway operations, demonstrating improvements in efficiency and reliability. De Luna and Palma discussed the global adoption of digital twins, emphasizing their role in optimizing asset management and operational strategies.
A key topic was the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data in rail systems, promoting seamless transitions from planning to execution. The speakers addressed issues of data integrity, accessibility, and collaboration, offering solutions to enhance data analysis and system resilience.
The session provided insights into future rail advancements, particularly how digital twins can evolve railway operations into intelligent, secure, and environmentally conscious systems. Attendees learned about designing data-driven strategies and the substantial impact of BIM data on operations and return on investment.
Transitioning from Vault to Autodesk Construction Cloud
Marion Behrens from DB E&C delivered a talk titled “Moving Forward: Navigating the Shift from Vault to Autodesk Construction Cloud.” This presentation discussed the challenges faced by DB E&C in migrating from Vault software to the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform.
Behrens outlined a two-stage migration plan: first implementing Autodesk Construction Cloud for Revit modeling while maintaining CAD drawings in Vault, and then transferring CAD functions to Autodesk Construction Cloud.
The session explored solutions to overcome platform limitations and ensure a smooth transition for Vault experts. Behrens shared strategies to address drawbacks for draftspersons, ensuring effective adaptation to the new system.
Attendees learned about connecting Vault and Autodesk Construction Cloud to avoid duplicate data storage and discovered Autodesk Construction Cloud extensions for efficient CAD-drawing management. Behrens also provided insights into change management support strategies for introducing the new platform.
DB E.C.O. Group is eager to advance digital solutions in the industry and to lead by example when it comes to implementing digital tools for complex engineering projects. We are proud to have been selected for these presentations and extend our gratitude to the Autodesk University 2024 team for the great organization.
