DB E&C’s focus will be on optimizing the operation and maintenance of the Haramain high-speed line, which connects the cities of Makkah and Madinah. DB Engineering & Consulting, a subsidiary of DB E.C.O. Group, is going to support SAR with specialized expertise and highly qualified professionals to meet the complex requirements of this state-of-the-art rail system.

Niko Warbanoff, CEO of DB E.C.O. Group: “We are pleased to continue our activities on the Haramain project and to provide more of our expertise and services in the future. The confidence and trust our partners at SAR put in us are a testament to the successful work we have done so far. I’m proud to see our company’s dedication and technical prowess recognized in this important initiative.”

The contract encompasses several objectives, including targeted support for daily operations, optimization of maintenance schedules, and the introduction of innovative solutions to increase overall efficiency. Through the use of cutting-edge technologies and processes, including automation, digitalization, and predictive maintenance strategies, the aim is to reduce operating costs while simultaneously improving the performance and reliability of the railway line.

Another aspect of this collaboration is extended knowledge transfer. DB E&C will actively contribute to the training and further qualification of local workforce and promote the transfer of expertise through comprehensive training programs and practical experiences. This initiative not only ensures the long-term sustainability of the high-speed line but also drives the local development of railway expertise in Saudi Arabia.

In the past, our company was already significantly involved in the Haramain high-speed line project and accompanied the construction of the line. The project includes a new 450 km long electrified passenger line with an operating speed of 300 km/h. It enables fast, comfortable, reliable, and safe travel using state-of-the-art technology for journeys between Makkah and Madinah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The high-speed line had become necessary for several reasons. The most important one was the growing number of pilgrims, Umrah participants, visitors, and residents coming to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah throughout the year, especially during the pilgrimage season and holidays. By bridging technological and operational gaps, we are working together with SAR on creating a modern, future-proof transport link that meets the changing needs of Saudi Arabia’s growing population and the country’s ambitious development plans.
